LOS ANGELES – January 10, 2012 – Farmscape, an urban agriculture enterprise, has completed its first rooftop garden installation in downtown Los Angeles. They installed a system of raised bed planters for intensive food production on the rooftop of the The Jonathan Club, a historic Los Angeles social organization. The Jonathan Club contacted Farmscape to help them design, install, and maintain a rooftop garden to grow fresh greens for their onsite restaurant.

“Farmscape helps individuals and organizations take their sun-drenched urban spaces and turn them into thriving organic gardens,” says Farmscape CEO, Jesse DuBois. “We’re excited to be able to grow the freshest produce possible for the The Jonathan Club’s new head chef. We hope that building this rooftop garden right in the middle of Los Angeles demonstrates that food cultivation can happen almost anywhere. Now members of the club can enjoy fresh and artisanal ingredients without traveling out to a distant farm field.”

Farmscape worked closely with Matthew Allnatt, The Jonathan Club’s General Manager and Chief Operating Officer, to develop a custom organic garden that would provide the restaurant with first-class, organically grown greens. “I wanted to do something unique for our members while also encouraging a healthy and sustainable lifestyle,” Matthew Allnatt says. The rooftop garden is 200 square feet and sits on the roof across from the club gym. “So while our members are at the gym they are able to see the beautiful edible garden instead of the concrete that was there before.”

Farmscape has installed more than 10,000 square feet of garden and produced more than 28,000 pounds of fresh, organic produce since opening its doors. The company began as a mobile gardening service of residents in their home yards, but in response to growing interest and requests from institutional clients such as The Jonathan Club the company now offers a wide range of services to nonresidential customers.
