Esencia Farm

Multi-Family Project

Project Summary

Esencia Farm showcases the neighborhood commitment to preserve local agricultural history while highlighting the adaptability of urban farm design. This full-production farm is prominently located within the mixed-use community hub of the Esencia neighborhood in Rancho Mission Viejo, which also includes two schools, a coffee shop, indoor/outdoor event spaces and a hiking trail that connects to nearby open space. Esencia provides farming opportunities to more than 60 households each month and offers U-picks, seasonal plant and produce sales and special events, as well as donating a portion of the food to a community food pantry.

Esencia was designed with efficiency, visual appeal and accessibility in mind. We love the incorporation of the commercial kitchen, cold storage, greenhouse production and programming space all within the farm. Farmscape was brought in to develop and implement the farming plan for this new-construction farm, including extensive soil building, planting plans, production techniques, farm maintenance and programming development.

“When I looked into buying at Esencia, I loved the homes, the amenities and the feel of the community. Being able to farm with my neighbors was such a unique and exciting idea for me, and was ultimately the reason for moving here.”
