What’s your favorite plant to grow?
I really enjoy growing eggplants! I don’t necessarily like eating them, but I think their colors are really fun and the varieties are really distinct.

How did you get into farming?
My background is in wilderness survival with kids and teaching land connections. One of the things we did is plant identification. I wanted to learn more about that, so I started taking horticulture classes when the pandemic hit. The transition from wilderness survival to farming is easier than you might think, but it’s definitely not a traditional path.

What do you like about working at Farmscape?
I love getting to grow good food, and getting people excited about the different things we’re growing. Also, at Farmscape there’s always something growing and changing. When you first put a plant in the ground it doesn’t need a lot, but as it grows you have to tie up your peppers, or prune your tomatoes, or cut back your melons. It changes at a gradual pace and it’s different every time. I love watching plants grow. You get to think about the way they grow, and how to improve upon that within the garden bed, site or microclimate. It’s always a fun puzzle!

What’s something surprising that not many people know about you?
I play on the Bay Area Adult Soccer League. I’m part of an all-women’s league with a team of 8. This season we’re 5-0, and we’ve scored 36 goals and only had 1 goal score on us. We’re killing it!
