Levi’s Stadium

Commercial Project

Project Summary

Faithful Farm sits atop Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, home of the San Francisco 49ers. Since 2018, we’ve developed a quarter acre of row crops on the roof (above the press box) that grows everything from pickles to pumpkins for the Faithful.

Project Goals

  • Grow organic produce for the extensive stadium concessions network
  • Provide educational opportunities for the STEAM program which invites local school kids to learn at the stadium
  • Create a beautiful backdrop for parties and events
  • Support local ecosystems by creating a pollinator-friendly space
Over 20,000 lbs of food grown onsite, providing produce for on-site food services and the Second Harvest Food Bank

We built on the previous work done by Gazzardo and Associates, who had originally designed the roof as an ornamental garden. We removed some of the quick-draining rooftop soil and replaced it with an organic soil blend to support crops, added drip irrigation and came up with custom crop plans to support the various stadium concessions.

Native plants keep pollinator communities present in the extreme environment

In 2023, Senior Management at Levi’s Stadium realized their rooftop farm was attracting some special guests: birds, butterflies, and bees! To support these pollinators, another rooftop space was converted into a dedicated way-station. We had a blast selecting a plant palette that not only supports these vital pollinators year-round but also incorporates the 49ers’ red and gold colors. The chosen plants were selected to thrive during the cooler months of the football season, ensuring vibrant growth throughout the year.

“Our 27,000-square-foot green roof successfully helps reduce heating and cooling requirements within our suite tower and carving out this small portion to grow crops for use in the stadium further minimizes our carbon footprint by reducing our reliance on outside food sources.”
