A dry, underutilized yard backyard was transformed into a thriving garden filled with raised beds, flowering borders, and pathways that invite exploration and connection.

Before
After

This once-unused section of lawn was transformed into a thriving rain garden inspired by a nearby French drain. Instead of storing rainwater in barrels, the garden is designed to let water percolate into the soil—deeply watering the property’s large oak trees and supporting long-term resilience through California’s dry summers.

In the front yard, we replaced the traditional lawn with a colorful native meadow. The planting palette includes California natives and pollinator-friendly perennials designed to thrive with minimal irrigation. This space serves as a water-wise introduction to the property, blending seamlessly into the neighborhood’s natural terrain.

Large, established oaks shaped this front yard plan—favoring drought-tolerant plants that can coexist with their expansive roots
