Project Summary

In 2021, our friends at Veggielution contacted us with a fun design challenge: design and build a stylish, affordable pocket park for the SoFA (South of First Area) of San Jose…in three months. Challenge accepted! Our design team got to work, collaborating with Veggielution to develop this colorful, community-forward space.

Project Goals

  • Create something fun, stylish and welcoming for this industrial stretch of San Jose
  • Design all the pieces to be mobile, as this pocket park is (potentially) a temporary installation
  • Provide screening between the food production areas and the adjoining neighborhood dog park
  • Keep some open space for workshops, food trucks and larger events

We completed a schematic and design development phase in 4 quick weeks to get this project back to our clients for a month of fundraising before the build in May of 2021. Local Color Murals  contributed the artwork and TOPA Architecture was the site architect.
