Project Summary

Hillcrest Country Club is an historic Los Angeles social club with an 18-hole golf course spanning 141 acres in Beverly Hills. The club is known for its excellent culinary offerings and reached out to Farmscape in 2013 to design and develop a farm to provide the highest quality local produce, with an emphasis on summer heirloom tomatoes. The course was renovated in 2019, but the club’s commitment to the farm continued, and it was incorporated into the renovated design. The new design features 100 raised beds and a mixed fruit orchard.

Project Goals

  • Grow exceptional heirloom tomatoes for the club kitchen
  • Convert underutilized turf into a productive and beautiful farm
  • Provide fresh herbs, greens and fruit throughout the year
Tomatoes are the most important crop for the club, and we produce thousands of pounds here every summer
We collaborate with the Executive Chef to select the most unique and delicious varieties, including these indigo heirlooms
The trees in the accompanying orchard provide a screen from the nearby fairway and produce a mixed crop of summer fruit like apricots, peaches and apples

  • This composite image shows the site before building the farm when it was used for growing turf and staging landscape materials.

  • Prospective site plan for initial farm design that included a central event space. Ultimately the decision was made to focus entirely on crop production.
