Mediterranean Potager

Residential Project

Project Summary

Great landscapes don’t compete with history—they celebrate it.

For this historic Northern California estate, Farmscape transformed an overlooked side yard into a productive edible garden that feels as though it has always belonged. Existing brickwork, mature trees, iron gates, and a restored century-old greenhouse became the foundation for a landscape that honors the property’s heritage while supporting everyday life.

Project Goals

  • Preserve and celebrate the property’s historic character.
  • Create productive gardens that feel timeless and original to the estate.
  • Maximize edible production through thoughtful space planning, vertical growing, and curated containers.
  • Design around mature trees and existing architectural features.
  • Blend formal European garden traditions with a California Mediterranean planting palette.

Drawing inspiration from traditional French and English parterre gardens through a California Mediterranean lens, the design balances formal structure with abundant harvests. Vertical growing, curated pots, and thoughtfully integrated edible plantings maximize productivity without compromising the timeless character of the estate.
